Solidarity with Trans Prisoners at ACE & organised by the newly formed Edinburgh Action for Trans Health.

The 22nd of January is International Day of Solidarity with Trans Prisoners.

To raise awareness of the issues surrounding transgender people in prison we will be reading letters sent from inside the prison system about their experiences. After a short refreshment break will then provide info how to start writing letters to prisoners as well as having sign-up sheets on hand for signing up to the Bent Bars Penpal Project.

After the main session people will be free to stay and begin letter writing in a friendly environment.

Accessibilityto the venue: ACE has no external or internal steps that have to be navigated during the event. All doorways are accessible via wheel/powerchair. While the toilet has space for a wheelchair user ATH are unaware if it has railings or other fittings to help with accessibility and we will update the event with this info ASAP. The venue is not fitted with a hearing loop and we do not have access to BSL interpreters for the event at this time. If you have any other requirements or questions please do get in touch.

The Bent Bars Project is a letter-writing project for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, gender-variant, intersex, and queer prisoners in Britain. The project was founded in 2009, responding to a clear need to develop stronger connections and build solidarity between LGBTQ communities inside and outside prison walls.
