Don’t Skip Class is a new project of political self-education for anarchists and friends facilitated by the Edinburgh Anarchist Federation

We aim to provide a solid grounding in radical theory to allow activists and organisers to better understand class, capitalism, gender, race, nationalism, theories of organising and more. Understanding theory helps us to make sense of our struggles, put them in perspective and identify new directions for strategy and tactics.

We believe that theory can be accessible to everyone, and should be understood by all. Leaving theoretical analysis to a small group of experts makes theory seem more complicated and inaccessible than it really is, and leaves us unable to deal with contentious issues, collective strategic decisions or the loss of knowledgeable individuals.

We’ll meet once a month to discuss a short book or essay taking a different topic each time. We ask everyone to try to do the reading in advance, but feel free to come along even if you don’t manage it.

For the first session we’ll be discussing The Power of Women and the Subversion of the Community, by Mariarosa Dalla Costa and Selma James.

This classic text of Autonomist Feminism from 1972 used a feminist reading of Marx to challenge left orthodoxy on the role of women, their labour and their struggles.

You can access the text and find a pdf version here.
